Democrats are planning a climate change-focused fundraising event for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, coinciding with the birthday of the Inflation Reduction Act.
The Friday virtual event is a kickoff for “Climate Voters for Harris,” the latest in a series of affinity-focused coalitions the Harris and Tim Walz campaign has put together in recent weeks with the Democratic National Committee. It’s on the second anniversary of President Joe Biden’s signing of the IRA, his landmark climate law.
Organizers are expecting speeches from former Biden international climate envoy John Kerry, Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, actress Jane Fonda, science communicator Bill Nye and others.
“Join us for an afternoon of celebration, as we commemorate the second anniversary of the IRA, and progress, as we organize to elect the Harris-Walz ticket,” the campaign said in its invitation to the event.
