A number of Republican policy riders meant to dismantle components of the Biden administration’s climate agenda are all but certain to be left out of the final fiscal 2024 spending package, according to top appropriators.
While the six-bill minibus has yet to be finalized, Senate Appropriations subcommittee chairs told E&E News on Thursday that certain provisions that would stand in the way of the administration’s climate goals had virtually no chance of surviving the negotiations.
Lawmakers are hoping to release the text for most, if not all, of the bills this weekend in hopes of passing the bipartisan package before the March 22 funding deadline.
Democrats have been adamant throughout the monthslong process that they would not tolerate any provisions aimed at federal climate programs. They appear to be succeeding.
