Elevated sea levels claimed the latest beach house victim Friday at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina.

It was the seventh house collapse on the beach strip in the last four years, according to the National Park Service. A seashore representative said it is possible that Hurricane Ernesto’s movement up the Atlantic coast played a role in the house slide, but they noted the area has been coping with coastal erosion for some time.

The seashore on Sunday warned visitors about rough ocean conditions, saying there are strong rip currents. Visitors also are being told to avoid the beach due to the hazardous debris.

A video posted on Facebook by the Chicamacomico Banks Fire & Rescue showed the house being carried back and forth by the waves crashing onto the beach.
