The Biden administration is touting moves to boost public engagement in the regulatory process.
The White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs released a report Wednesday that rounded up efforts across the federal government to encourage people to participate in crafting rules that deal with everything from the environment to school lunches.
“Public input makes the regulatory process work better,” said Sam Berger, OIRA’s associate administrator, in a blog post accompanying the report. “Agencies can be more responsive to public needs, rules can benefit from a wide range of inputs, and members of the public can see how their voices make a difference.”
It is part of a larger campaign by President Joe Biden to remake the rulemaking process, often locked within federal agencies and lacking feedback from ordinary Americans.
