Dozens of environmental nonprofits have signed onto an effort aimed at ensuring that women and people of color receive equal pay for their work.
Fifty-one organizations have signed onto a “pay equity pledge,” organized by Green 2.0, that group announced Wednesday. Green 2.0 — which aims to promote diversity within the environmental movement — launched its pay equity initiative in 2022.
“We cannot expect people to stay in our movement if they’re continually paid less for the same work,” Adriane Alicea, managing director of Green 2.0, said Wednesday.
Organizations signing the pledge commit to analyzing staff pay in regard to race, ethnicity and gender, and to take actions to eliminate pay disparities. Among the 51 organizations that have signed the pledge are the Environmental Defense Fund, Earthjustice, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, the League of Conservation Voters, the Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund.
